The frame everything else hangs from. Bone is living tissue — it remodels continuously in response to the loads you put through it, which is why the skeleton is one of the few organ systems you can directly train.

Skeletal muscle is the most adaptable tissue you own. It responds to load within days, and the strength you build in it protects the joints underneath — which is why almost every rehabilitation programme on this site ends in a strengthening exercise.
